VX220 Spraybar Fitting Guide

Required Components:

The spraybar looks like above. It weighs almost nothing and is made of plastic. The U shaped section features approx 5 tiny holes which squirt the fluid onto the windscreen.

Firstly, the end section of black rubber tube can be discarded. The plastic click can also be disccarded as it doesn't fit onto the VX wiper.

Next clip the spraybar in place, it clips fairly easily onto the underside of the wiper arm.

Next attach the end of the 3mm tube to the rigid part of the spraybar. To make this easier put the end of the 3mm tube into some freshly boiled water, it makes it a lot easier to slide on.

Clip the rigid part of the spraybar underneath the wiper with a small, thin black cable tie. Owners with the Elise style wiper may be able to use the supplier plastic clip which was discarded earlier but I cannot confirm this.

Next, feed the 3mm tube along around the existing spray nozzle, along the drip tray, down through the drain hole and through the slits in the plastic part which contains the wheel locking key.

Alternatively you could drill a small hole in the side of the drip tray and feed the tube through there like Elise owners do. I chose not to as it isn't really needed on the VX and this way the modification is totally reversable should you decide to take it off.

Next, lift the washer bottle out. Simply pull the existing tube off the washer pump. Then, attach the length of 5mm tubing to the pump, again put the tube it hot water and it slides on easily and creates a firm seal as it cools. In the picture below you can see the 5mm tube attached and the end of the existing tube. This can be poked down somewhere or cable tied if you want to.

Now, put the washer bottle back in place. Offer up the 3mm and 5mm tubing and trim either if there is too much excess. Now push the 3mm tube into the larger one. You need approx 7mm inside the other to get a tight seal, I found the 2 tubes would not separate even with a fair amount of pulling so there's no chance of it coming undone.

That's it, close the bonnet and it's all done. You will find it offers a big improvement and washes the screen a lot better. No more cleaning of washer jets or trying to direct them properly. None of the tubing in the drip tray can be seen at all once the bonnet is shut, neither is any tube visible from inside or outside going to the bar.

It will spray about 2/3 of the way up the screen, it won't get right to the top, but the wiper picks up a lot of water as it reaches the edge of the screen, so cleans the top and edges of the screen well. With the car in the garage and not moving it cleaned the entire screen without the assistance of airflow.
